China has issued a statement on its position regarding the political settlement of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The statement includes 12 key points that China believes should be followed to achieve peace in the region.
Beside the respect of sovereignty of other countries, they should be treated equally, even if you have different conditions. Parties must uphold international norms, promote uniform application of the law, and reject double standards to defend justice and fairness. Other points are Abandoning the Cold War mentality or the apell to stop unilateral sanctiancs like the EU did. The paper requests the resolving of the humanitarian crisis in the Ukraine.
The international community should continue to advocate the right approach to promote peace talks, help the parties open the door to a political solution as soon as possible, and create conditions and platforms for the resumption of negotiations. China will continue to play a constructive role in this regard. All parties should support Russia and Ukraine to work in the same direction and resume direct dialogue as soon as possible in order to gradually de-escalate the situation and eventually reach a comprehensive ceasefire.
Media write, that Beijing’s claim to neutrality is undermined by its refusal to acknowledge the conflict as an “invasion” and its support for Moscow. China demands that there should be no use of nuclear weapons and no threats of such use. China acts neutrally here, but is closely linked to Russia. The Chinese government has repeatedly accused the West of provoking the conflict and further fuelling it by supplying arms to Ukraine. However, the US fears that China itself is on the verge of supplying weapons to Russia.
